Guide to A NEWER WAY OF THINKING (ANWOT)
Use of the Computer Disk [and E-book]
The Newer Way of Thinking computer disk [and E-book] contains mental skills that will enable you to feel good and “do good.” It consists of many strens (mental skills), each designed to strengthen self-mastery of the way you think, feel, and act. Observation suggests that the main reason someone has an unsatisfactory life’s experience is because they are their own worst enemy. Similarly, those who make a happy, energetic, successful, enthusiastic life do not necessarily have wealth, fame, status, connections, titles, formal education, and may not even have good health. ANWOT is a collection of the active mental skills others have discovered and have shown that they “work.”
Two important philosophers have clarified why they work. Peanuts: “Happiness is a state of mind.” Epictetus (1st century Greek philosopher): “Men feel disturbed not by things, but by the views which they take of them.” The practical strens on the computer disk are usually 1-8 pages, easy to understand and apply, though they require practice to become effective. The theory strens are more difficult, lengthier, and require reflection to attain greater understanding. You may choose to focus on the practical strens or any combination of practical and theory strens to suit your interest.
The ANWOT curriculum is provided gratis. You have no obligation and no one will ask you to even acknowledge that you have used it. It is up to you what you do with it. If you are not interested, simply discard it, or preferably, pass it on to someone who may benefit from it.
TO USE THE COMPUTER DISK: The disk is written in Microsoft’s Word program . Simply put the disk in your computer (markings up) and the contents page will load on your screen. If not, go to “Windows Explorer” and click on “My Computer”. Then click on “CD Drive (D:)” or the letter of the drive in which you have inserted the disk. Once the stren icon appears, double click on it to load the table of contents. You can double click any numbered stren to read it on the computer and/or print a copy of the desired stren to get a hard copy. I suggest you begin with the strens on self-endorsement followed by the vocabulary strens and the mental response control panel strens. Enjoy!
NOTE: THIS IS NOT A CD TO BE PLAYED ON A MUSIC SYSTEM; IT MAY BE READ ON A COMPUTER SCREEN OR HARD COPIES CAN BE PRINTED.
E-BOOK ON INTERNET: Go to “ANWOT.org”. The Internet book is in a PDF format.
